The users on Windows XP Pro that you allow in Remote Desktop must have
a working password. It can not be blank normallt (although you can
"over-ride" this policy.)

I have seen that some anti-virus programs also "place" a simple
protocol blocking feature which acts somewhat like a firewall. Norton
AntiVirus / Internet Security has an Internet Worm blocking feature,
which causes access problems.

Did you enable Remote Connections in My Computer Properties, Remote tab?

duh..........................
that was too obvious, thanks for helping the idiot here,
i do promise never to make that mistake again
just somewhat surprised that i got a username/pswd prompt when that was not
set,
would have thought the process would never have got that far if remote was
not
even enabled, would more expected some thing like 'connections not allowed
here', etc

thanks again

One of the odd features of RDP in XP. Glad to have been of assistance,
though.
