Remote Desktop with XP

H

Harley

I have two home computers running XP Home. I would like to connect via
remote desktop, but neither computer has the option to allow a remote
connection.

When I goto control panel>system>remote tab. I do not see "Allow users to
connect remotely to this computer".

What do I need to do to configure this connection.

Thanks
Harley

XP Home does not support the use of Remote Desktop in a "host" mode. So, with that said...you can
use VNC or NetMeeting Remote Desktop to access/control a XP Home box remotely...

Get the VNC software from...

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

For help with NetMeeting RDS look at this KB article. NetMeeting is built-in to XP and can not be
upgraded...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;233175

Note that the VNC data stream is *NOT* encrypted so that is a potential security problem if you use
if over the public internet. Some folks run VNC through VPN tunnels to get around that issue.

Or...update to XP Pro...:)

I do not see net meeting installed anywhere on my system, I have browsed the
CD and don't see it there either. What am I missing?
