Remote Desktop with a Netgear Router

I installed my Netgear Router last night and everything worked without a
hitch. However, I am experiencing some problems using Remote Desktop to
access my work PC. When I am connectly directly to the cable modem
everything Remote Desktop works but going through the Netgear is when I have
the trouble. I have forwarded port 3389 and still have trouble.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

You must create a tunnel for port 3389 at your office, not at
your home. If you still have problems then you should provide
full details, e.g. your internal and external IP addressing
scheme, your port forwarding details and your error messages.
"I still have trouble" does not mean a great deal. Did you
disable your PC-based firewall while testing?

You must of over looked my statement "When I am connectly directly to the
cable modem Remote Desktop works" which means that my office network does not
require any configuration for Remote Desktop. When trying to RD in through
the Netgear trouble occurs.

Based on my statement above, the Netgear is the issue. I have configured
the Netgear with a 192.168.2.x ip address to avoid issues with IPSEC. The
tunnel works as it should and have spoken with my Firewall/VPN tech support
to eliminate them.

Please offer tips that I can try to solve this issue.

Thanks again,

Joe

If your local network is on a 192.168.2.xxx subnet 255.255.255.0
What network is your office on?
If its on the same network you will have problems.

Check a machine at your office and post its IP address and Subnet.

My networks ip address is 192.168.1.x with a 255.255.255.0 subnet.
The Netgears ip address is 192.168.2.x with a 255.255.255.0 subnet

Should I try a different ip address range?

That should work. They are different networks.
You may want to check the router configuration and make sure there isn't a
check box for PPTP pass-through.
If there is make sure its checked to allow.
