Remote Desktop requires space bar to be pressed to connect...

I have got a strange problem which is happening on several Windows XP SP2
machines. When a remote desktop session is initiated from another XP client
the screen of the host machine goes blank and the client session sits there
waiting to login. If I press the space bar on the host machine, the session
continues to login and the screen comes back as locked. This is fine when
I'm physically next to the machine, but when I'm trying to connect from home,
I cannot do this.

There is nothing in the event log, and I have tried connecting when the
machine is already logged in and also when it is at the login screen. If I
remotely reboot the machine using SHUTDOWN or TSSHUTDN, I can mostly connect.

Could be "power options" related ie your host machine going into standby
mode, requiring a key press to rewake it.

Control Panel > Power Options

Nothing seek, nothing find

I don't think it is that. The power options are set to never hibernate,
suspend, turn off screen, or turn off hard disks. The machine will just be
sat at the logon screen (no screensaver), and as soon as you make an RDP
session to it, thats when the screen goes black (not off, just black). It'll
sit there indefinitely until you press space..
