Remote Desktop problems on wireless network

I have a client that has a wireless network setup. We did have D-Link and I
just switched them to Linksys to try and correct the problem. The wireless
network is working great....until she tries to connect to another location
with remote desktop with a wireless computer.

She connects fine and with the D-Link wireless system, she would work and
then all of the sudden, a icon would start flashing in the upper right hand
corner and she would lose connection with the host. This would happen over
and over. Now she could go back and pull up web pages fine, but the remote
desktop has been giving her fits.

I switche her out to Linksys today hoping that would fix the problem. Now
it is very slow and locks up despite having excellent signal.

The next option is to just turn a 100' of wire to her computer from the
router, but I would rather be able to avoid that.

Is what we are tyring to do un-compatable with remote desktop or is there
some setting I have over looked.

Once again, we can connect to host computers, but can't keep the connection
to them...although the internet is still working fine.

Thanks guys and have a great labor day weekend.

This ought to work. Have you rev'ed the firmware in both wireless router
devices you've tried?

It's tempting to suggest that the basic problem is in the connection between
the router and the ISP--since that's in common with both devices you've
tried--but I don't think that's completely proven.

Can you test either without the router in place (i.e. wired to the ISP's
modem)--or with the wire (excluding the wireless aspect)?

What kind of an ISP connection is this?

Thanks for the reply Bill.

It is a Sprint/Earthlink DSL. They have two computers that are wired and
two that are wireless. We have not tried them with the wired computers yet,
but I suspect that would work fine.

Like I said, everything internet and wireless wise works fine until we go to
Remote Desktop. Now that works decent but randomly dis-connects or locks-up.
I think we have the latest firmware for the router.

I haven't seen such problems myself over wireless connections, and I have
used them both at home and in various work situations, with both Linksys,
Microsoft, and Dlink routers, at least.

So--it's nothing inherent to wireless.

I don't know just what to look at next--I do wonder about the wireless nics
and the machines they are in--any chance of substituting, perhaps with a USB
nic, to see whether a different nic changes things?

We used USB NIC's from D-Link and Linksys. The computer is a brand new Dell
system.

When connected to the remote desktop at any of the locations, there would be
a little icon that would start flashing in the upper right hand corner that
symboled that she had lost connection.

I'm just going to run a wire and see if that fixes the problem.
