Remote Desktop problem

Hi All,

Ever since SP2 has been installed on my systems (both Pro, SP2) the Remote
Desktop functionality has changed (for the worse).

Situation:
pc downstairs to remotely work on the desktop of the 'central' pc upstairs.
As I said eversince SP2 remote desktop works, but only once, meaning when
the central pc has been started up I can RDP to it.
In the past when I 'logged off' (*not* disconnect!) the remote desktop
session from the central pc, I was able to establish a it again.
Now, once logoff has been issued, trying to re-establish a remote desktop
connection results in what is described in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321624,:

The client could not establish a connection to the remote computer.

The most likely causes for this error are:
1) Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer.
2) The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the remote computer.
3) A network error occurred while establishing the connection.

This is an exact description of the message received. However the fix
mentioned is pre-SP2 and the references made don't compute with what's
actually on the system.

Once the central pc is restarted, establishing e connection works again.
(again only once).

At the network level I've seen the TCP-three way handshake pass by,
immediately followed by a TCP Reset package, thus resulting in the message.

It makes no difference wether I have Windows Firewall running or my own
preferred firewall, or have no firewall running, so to me it does not appear
to be a firewall type limitation. (Besides this was running through my
firewall before and those rules have not changed!)

The link to MS from the event reported in Eventvwr is a dud, no help.

Anyone here, pleeeease?????

:))

as a follow up, as to the possible reasons given by MS:
The most likely causes for this error are:
1) Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer.
this is not the case, since connecting once works just fine.
2) The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the remote computer.
this is basically the one I'm not sure of. Where (if anywhere) is there a
maximum defined?
My guess is, it's in the software, and cannot be changed.
Besides, there is no other connection active (ever), since I only have those
two systems.
So (again my guess) the logoff does not relinquish the current session
properly, thereby leaving the system thinking there still is a session.
I have no idea how to prove this.
Anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this?
3) A network error occurred while establishing the connection.
this is not the case, because network connectivity works just fine. Shares
can be accessed etc.
