Remote Desktop problem

I've spent quite some time trying to make the remote desktop work, with
no luck. I'm running Win XP Pro with SP1 in both client and host.

I've done the following:

- enabled the remote desktop in the host.
- disabled the firewall in the host.
- added the username to the remote desktop user list.
- nslookup shows that my host is listening to port 3389
- I can telnet to port 3389
- I can also do a regular telnet session to the host.
- Terminal services system service is running.
- I'm using a the same client that I used when successfully
establishing a session earlier (a couple months ago). The problem is
not in the client or in the network. My host and client are in the same
LAN and in the same subnet.
- Event log shows a login/logout event when I try to connect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you running NAV 2005 worm protection on the host? That is reported to
kill RDP sessions...

Thanks Al for commenting.

I finally solved the problem. Just in case someone else runs into the
same problem, here is what I did:

1. I installed SP2 to the host. Remote desktop was still not
connecting, however, now I got an error in the event log with event id
STATUS_RDP_PROTOCOL_ERROR.

2. Microsoft knowledge base article 323495 explained that the cause is

" A potential race condition between the Icaapi.dll and Rdpwsx.dll
dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) may cause the private certificate key on
the Terminal Services server not to be synchronized."

3. I hacked the registly per the insructions in article 323495 and
voila...problem solved.

Are you sure it's not article 323497?
