remote desktop failed only after router and broadband used

I am using xp pro and used to connect successfully through vpn and remote desktop to 2000 serv. Since installing a router and broadband i can still get a connection through vpn but now cannot connect through remote desktop??

At the router, try forwarding port 3389 to the static IP
address of the server. I utilize the same configuration
as you do and it works fine. You will have to forward
port 3389 to the IP address of the server in order to get
this to work.
