VPN w/Outlook and INet Explorer

Ok here is the setup;

Windows 2003 running Routing and Remote Access Configured for VPN and
static IP (This is one of 3 servers).
Broadband business class cable connection with static IP.
Netgear FVS318 Router.

Client is using WindowsXP pro over a business class broadband cable
connection through cable company provided router. Configured for DHCP.

The Goal;

My client must be able to connect to our database server to run her software
along with email and Inet Explorer.

The Problem;

The VPN connects flawlessly. It registers her, she can see the network
shares and servers. The software connects to the database server through
ODBC and works fine. Enterprise manager server registration works peachy.
Oulook fails and no Internet browsing is possible while connected to VPN. If
I check 'Use Remote Gateway' in the VPN properties I lose my ODBC and
Enterprise Manager connection but get Outlook and Inet Browsing back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, the first thing I'd want to mention is that if the user needs to
access a database app, VPN wouldn't be my choice. It's useful for many
things, but I don't think it's suitable if the user needs to access anything
other than smallish files (and ideally, sync them to the local workstation),
or connect Outlook to Exchange (and I usually use RPC over HTTP for that
anyway)....you might want to look into Terminal Services. Or even Remote
Desktop to a WinXP Pro computer in the office.

That said: how is Outlook configured to access the Exchange server? Are you
using OL2003 and cached mode? (you should). I'm not sure how/why you lose
your database access if you enable remote gateway, as that should merely
prevent her from accessing the Internet via her *own* connection, and force
it out through the company network....

What info is she getting from the DHCP server when she makes the connection?
Posting the info from an ipconfig /all while she's connected might help.

Note that you should always have users 'use remote gateway' when connecting
via VPN, or you might be letting a lot of unwanted visitors onto your
network.
