Internet Explorer 7 - unwanted VPN connection

I am running WinXP Professional and IE7, with a British Telecommunications
Home Hub providing my broadband connection, which appears as a LAN. I have
VPN connections configured to provide access to remote PCs with Remote
Desktop Connection. When I have used one of the VPN connections and have
disconnected it, and then start IE7, my system starts the VPN connection
again. Since there is no longer a connections option to connect to the
Internet via a LAN - which thanks to BT is what I now have - I am desperate
for a solution that will prevent heving continually to cancel the VPN
connection when I dont need or want it!

This is most likely because your computer is set to "Always dial my default
connection" in the Internet control panel.

Thank you for your input. I had already made sure that the setting was "Never
dial a connection". I believe the problem lies in the fact that it is no
longer possible to specify "I connect through my LAN" in the communications
setup.
