Hi

Has anyone seen this before and can help me?
I have install the remote desktop but the tick box is greyed out. I tried to
install it again but then got at message saying that it was already installed
so I know it is there.

I am using XP SP1 and I think I have all the right permissions.

Its possible the group policy that enables/disables Remote Desktop is configured to disable Remote
Desktop...

To enable/disable Remote Desktop on the XP Pro Remote Desktop host via a Group Policy go to
"Start -> Run" and type gpedit.msc at the command line. Navigate to the "Local Computer Policy ->
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Terminal Services".
Highlight and double-click on "Do not allow new client connections", or if your running SP2 the
"Allow users to connect remotely using Terminal Services", policy and configure as needed. Select
"Ok"...

Hi

Thanks for the fast reply. I didn't have anything under Administrative
Templates but I have now added the Terminal Services and configured the
settings.
But the box in the System> Remote Desktop tab is still greyed out. I have
also been logged in to the PC as local admin but got the same result. I have
SP1.

What version of Windows XP are you running on the PC?

Ok...Is this PC in a domain environment? If so, you may need to contact the local system
administrators for help..

Other options...

From a reply by Jeffrey Randow, MS-MVP, back on January 3, 2002, to a similar question...

*************************************
From an earlier MS Post:

Do you have a REMOTEPG.DLL file in your SYSTEM32 directory? If so, try reregistering it.

regsvr32 remotepg.dll
*************************************

Otherwise a "Repair Install" maybe in order...

Note the WARNINGS about the Blaster Worm and reinstalling the service packs...

Good luck...

Hi again

I have registered the dll but thebox is still grey.
I don't want to reinstall the SP1 beacause I'm doing some tests on this PC
and don't want to mess things up.

It is very strange. The PC is in domain but so it the other PC.

Thanks any way.

The other PC may be in a different organisational unit that allows it to be
enabled.

Have you admin confirm they are both in the same OU
