Remote desktop option not available

Hi,

I have been trying to access my home computer using remote desktop but don't
seem to have the option to enable this when I go to the remote tab in the
system properties box. I don't know why this is because I can remote desktop
to other computers from my home computer.

When I look at the remote tab in system properties the remote assistance
section is there and ticked but nothing else is on that tab, it's just blank.
I do have a screenshot of this but I don't know how to upload it here.

I am using windows XP home edition SP3

Any help to fix this problem appreciated,

Sandeep

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Your answer:

Windows XP Home Edition cannot be used as a 'server' in the remote desktop
scenario. It has the client capability (it can remote *into* another
machine) but it can not be remoted into from another machine using native
functionality. It is one (of the few) major differences between the Home
Editions of Windows operating systems and the Professional Editions of
Windows operating systems.

You are welcome to use something like VNC (I like UltraVNC) or TeamViewer
(easiest to setup/use in my opinion) in order to gain the same functionality
built into the Professional Editions of Windows - but Windows XP Home
Edition just cannot do it innately.

Shenan,

Thanks for your help, once I read your post. I had a bit of a search round
on the web and found out how to make windows think it was the pro edition and
installed the terminal services thing that I was missing. Now it works great.

Best wishes,
Sandeep
