Remote computer hung up no response

I have a remote computer quite some distance away that seems to be hung up.
I cannot get vnc, netmeeting, or remote desktop to connect. The shutdown
command doesn't seem to work either. Strangely, I can ping the computer,
but otherwise no connection. Any thoughts beside sending someone there to
manually reboot?

If none of those things work - beyond you having a UPS that is networked
that allows you to connect to it and restart computer from it (by
disconnecting power) --> your only choice is to go do it yourself or call on
the phone and get someone to turn it off/on for you.

Any thoughts on why it respond to my ping, but nothing else?

Ping does not equal functionality.
Ping means the system (or some basic parts of it) answered your request.
It means the computer - at some level - can be reached.

Why ICMP Echo (Ping) Is Not Good For Network Measurements

In real terms, a ping is like asking someone "Are you there?" and they
answer (or don't) back. Tells you nothing else. Doesn't mean all of their
other facilities are working properly..

Any thoughts on why it respond to my ping, but nothing else?

Maybe it is a different machine now.
