Hi there,

Here is my issue. I have disabled the simple file sharing option on my box
that I use as a program server in our office. This box, which I will refer
to as Server, has windows XP pro, I disabled the guest account from the users
list. I have added all the Users and Passwords that I want to allow into my
program folder. I have set the permissions (I think correctly) on the folder
I wish to share. Now, when I go to access the folder from one of the remote
PCs, it comes up with a User login screen but I can only modify the Password
box, not the User name box. The user name box is greyed out and the user it
has entered in there is SERVER\guest. Any ideas on how to change this?
Thanks for your time.

are you sure the remote computer has the same username who logon the local computer? what do you receive if using net view \\remotepc command? this may help, quoted from http://www.howtonetworking.com/neterrors.htm.

Resource: \\computername\IPC$ - An extended error has occurred
Symptoms: When you attempt to connect to w2k/xp computer over the network, you may receive one of the following error messages: "You must supply a password to make this connection: Resource: \\computername\IPC$" -or- "computername An extended error has occurred"
Resolutions: 1. make sure netlogon service is running.
2. Make sure you have created logon ID and password for remote computer logon.
3. Or enable guest account.
