Remote Assistance

Derek Da Silva

Hi Everyone,

I recently pushed a GPO so that it would enable Remote Assistance on all
workstations in my Domain (right now I added the GPO to my "test" OU with two
computers Novice and Expert).

When I attempt to send a Remote Assistance request I get the following
message:
The remote server machine does not exist or unavailable.

I followed the steps as outlined in this support doc:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=301527

Could you please provide me with assistance?

Thank you,
D

I am not sure I understand the issue. But let me try these:

1. The article describes how to configure a computer that is running Windows
XP or Windows Server 2003 to receive Remote Assistance offers, but not send
a Remote Assistance request.

2. If you are trying to offer Remote Assistance and you get the message "The
remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable", I would check the
firewall settings first. You may want to add these Exceptions to the Windows
Firewall configuration (Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Exceptions):

1. Programs
a. %systemroot%\system32\sessmgr.exe
b. %systemroot%\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries\helpsvc.exe

2. TCP 135

or this link may help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555179

Hi Robert,

I confirmed that the port 135 (TCP) is open and the two programs are
exceptions in the Windows Firewall. Do you have any additional suggestions?

Thank you,
D

Hi Robert,

The issue was resolved by adding port 135. The GPO I created to add Port
135 wasn't working properly.

Unfortunately I have encountered a new issue (under thread- "A program could
not start"). I would appreciate your help on this new issue.

Thank you for your help.
