Out of a number of times I used remote assistance via msmessenger, only once
was it successful and probably due to the older version of messenger between
myself and my friend across town.

However, Simple Destop is free and when I have installed it on both my
laptop and pc, and I was able to successfully control my pc, like messenger's
remote.

It was a lot easier and without the headaches of figuring out windows and
messenger. You will simply have to provide her with your ip and the name of
your connection when you set up SimpleDestop. Then provide them to her to
input into the SimpleDesktop on her pc. Then when she connects to your
group, you will see her desktop pop up on yours immediately and move her
mouse with yours....

It was fun and easy....

If remote assistance is turned on in the system properties you problem
might be Windows messenger. Although many people think that MSN
messenger will work Windows messenger is required to do remote
assistance. I am assuming that you both have Windows XP installed
remote assistance will not otherwise.
See here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/remoteassist/intro.mspx

I have used Remote assistance several times and the only problem that
run in to is firewall settings so just turn them off.

For the full indepth one what remote assistance is and how to use it
look here:

Hope this helps.
