Remote Assistance - Helper can only view screen.

I am using XP Pro.
Sent Remote Assistance request via email.
Helper obtained access OK but can only view screen.
I can see no menu options that give them control.

Helper is using Win2000. Is this the problem i.e. we are trying to do
something which is not possible - or is there some setting I have missed?

Hello Bravos
I don't use Win2000 of XP Pro but when I as helper receive a helprequest in
XP Home
I can in the upper left corner of the screen which contains the screen of
the demander
overtake the controls After given permission by the helpasker I can take
over the controls.

Perhaps this will work for your OS as well.

Kind regards

Thanks for the heads up. I will pass on to my Helper and let you know the
result.

Hello,

Not a solution, but you can avoid using Remote Assistance (its a pain with
firewalls and customizability) and use the free Crossloop instead

Margah,
Yes, now he has opened his eyes it works fine. Thank you.

Singapore,
Thanks for the alternative - unfortunately, it seems to have the same
problem as Remote Assistance: "Explicit permission is required before any
screen images are sent to a remote computer."
In this case I want to give my helper permssion to work while I am not
present. Both RA and Crossloop require explicit permission.

Is Remote Desktop the solution to this?

You can probably set that up with Netmeeting, which is on most Windows
versions before Vista. It's a Remote Desktop feature you turn on within
Netmeeting.

Yes, Remote Desktop is the solution, provided your XP is Windows XP
Professional, not Home Edition. There are also third-party solutions that do
not require action on your part to permit access. I have no recommendations.

I'm now trying to Install Remote Desktop and the Help screen is referring to
a menu option that I don't seem to have.
"To install Remote Desktop Web Connection.
.....
6. In the Windows Components Wizard, click Next.
7. Open Internet Services Manager. "

Where do I find the Internet Services Manager? (no it's not in the Windows
Components Wizard!)

From Help:
To set up this computer to use Remote Desktop
Open System in Control Panel.
Click the Remote tab, and then, under Remote Desktop, click Allow users to
connect remotely to this computer.
Click Select Remote Users. If you are an administrator on the computer, your
current user account will automatically be added to the list of remote
users, and you can skip the next two steps.
In the Remote Desktop Users dialog box, click Add.
In the Select Users dialog box, do the following:
To specify the search location, click Locations, select the location you
want to search, and then click OK.
In Enter the object names to select, type the name of the user you want to
add, and then click OK.
The name will be displayed in the list of users in the Remote Desktop Users
dialog box.
Note
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators
group to enable the Remote Desktop feature.

Note that Remote Desktop Web Connection is an adjunct to Remote Desktop. The
Web Connection is not needed, nor is it likely desired. In any case, to
install RDWC, the component to first select (in the Add Component dialogue)
is Internet Information Services (IIS). Then click Details, then select
World Wide Web Service, then click Details again, then check Remote Desktop.
