When I try to connect to some of my friends it says "Remote Assistance
connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be
resolved. Please try again." does anyone know what the problem is?

You may need to change the IP address from private to public.

I'm having the same problem. I saw one posting in here that suggested it was
because of firewall settings on the ISP and that it could be resolved by
sending the request via Outlook with a couple additional lines in the
request, but now that I'm looking for the additional lines, I can't find
them. The people I'm trying to help even turned off their firewall in XP for
the duration of the request, but still nothing. I haven't had this trouble
with other connections.
Very frustrating!

First - you need the requestor to have configured their equipment (remotely)
correctly. I assume they are behind some sort of router. They need to
configure that router to forward port 3389 requests through to a particular
machine on the other side of that router/NAT device.

Second - Their software firewall (if they have one enabled) has to allow
remote assistance through. It's a simple checkbox in the Windows Firewall
settings and the addition of port 3389 to other firewalls.

Third - you want to get emailed the request and you want to open it to
verify you have their external IP address and not the NAT IP address of
their computer. If you have the NAT address (usually 192.168.x.x) -- you
will need to edit that and save the file. (See the last link...)

Fourth - they must be around when you accept the request.
