Remote assistance, assistance....aol related

I am looking for a way to access my mother system and diagnose and run some
maintenance programs.
I am on XP pro in AZ on Cable, she is in IL on dialup with AOL.( XP pro as
well.)
Being that she is on aol and has a dynamic IP can remote assistance be used?
Any other suggestions?

As an aside, when i attempt to "request" usinfg remote on MY side i am told
that my settings do not allow for this...what and where do i change this?
