Remote assistance

Dan

Trying to help my sister-in-law with remote assistance. I've done it many
times before, but now when I click on the rcbuddy.MsRcIncident attachment I
just get a messeage that says "Remote assistance failed. Please try again".
There is no other explanation. I've recently gone from XP Home to XP Pro
SP2. She's on XP Home, and and was going to find out why shes having
problems upgrading to SP2.

I can't imagine that her having the home edition and me having Pro would
make a difference. Any ideas?

That was a good thought. I just shut down zone alarm though and still have the problem. It must be on my side, because I just sent a remote assist invite from my daughters computer and get the same thing. Very odd.

How about the XP firewalls. They play havoc with a lot of remote/networking/chats/instant messaging type issues.

I thought about that after you sent me the email. When I tested it with my daughters computer I shut off all firewalls and still had the problem. Interestingly though, I just sent an invite from this computer to my daughters, and that worked.

Yeah that's my thought too.. since he just went from home to pro, it may have
turned the xp firewall ON during the install process...

Thanks. Good thought, but that's not it. I shut off zone alarm, and then
went in and made sure xp firewall was turned off and still have the problem.

I had a similar priblem and found a solution in another thread:
Per the other thread, I downloaded the SP2 installation file for IP
administrators.
This is a 266MB file.
I reinstalled SP2 on both of my systems from this file and it fixed them both.

The other thread is:
