remote access thru vpn connection

I have a desktop behind a Netgear router (FVS318) with
DSL and Static IP. I want to connect my notebook to the
desktop remotely using a dial-up (SBC Yahoo Dial-Up, a
free access that comes with my DSL account). After
getting a long tele-service from the router vendor, the
support engineer thinks that my problem may be caused by
ISP. I searched the desktop after VPN is connected. It
alway fails to get to the remote desktop. I guess that
the problem may be related to the fact that the dialup
connection seems to always uncheck "File and Print
Sharing" (for its networking property) once it is
connected to ISP. Is this an ISP issue or an XP issue?

Netgear router FVS318 is a firewall too, isn't it?
If you use a hardware firewall (or different software
firewall), you need to configure it to allow incoming
access to TCP port number 3389.
