I recently downloaded a program called drive washer. I was considering
selling my computer. Anyhow,it did what it was suppose to do,and now there is
no operating system on my computer. I have tried using my recovery cd's,they
seem to load ok,but when i go to boot up ,it still says no operating system.
What do I do?

You probably washed the hidden partition operating system info. The recovery
disks need that info. But, that's only a guess.
What's the make and model of your computer? Go to their website and see
if they have any answers for you. My guess
is that you will probably have to purchase a WinXP CD.

My computer is a Sony Vaio Laptop.I have had it at a computer repair shop
over a week, and they still cannot get a windows system on it. I did go to the
sony website and the things they said to do have all been done. Since the
drive wash program runs on its own system--linux--would that system go on it?
Thanks for your help.

Sure, I have used a linux distro to repair and replace the mbr many times.
Give Ubuntu a try.

Check the boot.ini file settings (in the root of C: drive) - it's highly
probable that the original 'image' of Windows allowed for the presence of a
hidden partition. Since that's no longer there Windows is now on partition
one instead of partition two.

Note that if the computer won't start and the disk is NTFS, then the best
way to edit the file is from Knoppix, Ubuntu or BartPE.
