RELOADING WINDOWS XP

G

Guest

My hard drive crashed and I need to reload Windows XP Professional on the new
hard drive. The problem is that Windows XP Professional was preloaded on my
machine and I do not have the CDrom to reload the operating system. I just
have the Windows product ID number. What should I do?

Contact the company that built the PC for instructions on recovery and for
recovery media.

What if the company is no longer trading / bankrupt
e.g. Tiny / Time Computers ?

Unfortunately the customer bears the cost of buying a new copy of windows to
get a new disk.

As a workaround: If the COA is on the case the OS can be installed from a
generic OEM disk, but it will not activate online. Phone activation will
have to be used.

That's good to know - Thanks Larry,

Are all Windows OEM CDs created equal ?
Will any win OEM CD work?

Any generic OEM CD will work (These are OEM cds produced by Microsoft and
sold to small system builders through the distribution channel. They are
easily recognized by the holographic surface)
Some of the customized OEM cds from the big manufacturers may not.
