Reinstalling XP

Updated my PC to reboot in safe mode to remove some
adware. Subsequent log on would only load my personal
settings and not allow me into XP. I am trying to reboot
from the XP CD but receive the message "Windows XP cannot
run under Safe Mode." Any ideas on how resolve this/these
problem(s)?
