Reinstalling XP and Office on a new PC

Hi All,

Suppose this question has been asked a thousand times but I'll ask again.
My on-board video has gone AWOL - it gives weird colours and fuzzy text. The
PC only has PCI adapters (2) and I can't get a PCI graphics card here in
Kuwait (Amazon - US and UK will not ship neither will any other on-line
reatailer I can find).
Have also trioed updates to video drivers with no success.
So I need to buy a new PC - But I have XP Pro and Office 2007 OEM.
Can I re-install these on a new PC or is HAL going to give me problems (an
ancient Space Odyssey term)?
The MS license says that the software is 'one' with 'the device'. this to me
is the hard drive. I don't have a problem in installing the HD in the new PC
but guess that I'll be at odds with MS..........

Other software sites (like Developer Express) record how many times one
installs and uninstalls their hardware via the internet. So they keep track.
Why can't MS do the same???
Have no problem in uninstalling from the old PC and installing on a new one
- from the same IP address too.
I'm not trying to cheat MS, just use their software on one PC.

Any help/comments appreciated.

If winXP is a retail edition, yes
Office is an OEM edition so no, it lives and dies with the first sys its
installed on.

If your version of win is an OEM edition & you swap out the hard drive it is
also unlikely to work, as you would have to repair install and then it may
baulk at the new hardware.

The hard drive is not 'a system', for tied OEM editions the system referes
to both the motherboard and bios.

Surely you know someone in the UK who will order & post, if nothing else I'm
sure someone on Ebay will.

No, you can't reinstall OEM licences on another computer. They're
permanently bound to the first computer on which they're installed.
But, since you're buying a new computer, just include the OS and a copy
of Office in the purchase.

The MS license says that the software is 'one' with 'the device'. this to me
is the hard drive.

But that's not what the EULA says, is it? The entire computer is the
MACHINE.

And it wouldn't work, anyway. You'd have to perform a repair
installation, and that would fail because of the new computer.
