Reinstalling Win 98 after XP

Apparently my earlier query didn't post, or something

Anyway, can anyone tell me how to install Win 98 after a Win XP install. I've had nothing but problems with this: when I try to boot from the 98 CD (upgrade), I get a "improper media" or something like that error message. I thought maybe it's the upgrade thing that's messing me up, so I went back to my first full version of Windows (3.11) (which installed just fine), then tried to install Win 95 and got the same error message

I've reformatted my boot hard drive so many times I can do it in my sleep (maybe that's the problem), all with the same result. Separare partitions and everything. The point of having both Win 98 and Win XP is that some of my software doesn't work with XP. (Or this another delusion on my part?

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

the problem is you really can't easily install 98 after XP as you have no
place to put the 98 install!
What you want to do to make it work best is to just purchase a 3rd party
boot program!
You should be able to install 98 then IF you have a full version copy of XP
you should be able to dual boot it!

Remember a windows reformat does not erase everything! You need to use a
3rd party tool or check your drive mfg web site for a utility to reformat
the drive! Many times this is done using a destructive testing program!

How about this; If you don't care about any information on the XP
installation, go to the site below, and download "Eraser"...It is Free...In
that installation, there is a feature called "Create a Nuke boot
disk"...Boot from that, erase the HD, and then boot with a Win98 boot disk.
I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try. Good Luck.

Surely the reason he cannot dual boot with a current XP installation is
because XP uses (usually) NTFS, and 98 uses FAT/FAT32.
If this is the case i would partition 1 as a FAT32 and the other NTFS.... or
simply get another physical drive and format it as FAT32 and then install 98
in there.....

I could be completely wrong, but that the first thing that came to my
mind....

Yes, I see your point. I just thought it sounded like he was dissatisfied
with XP, and wanted to do away with it, and return to "Yesteryear"(Win98).
My son, also, is "Sold" on Win98, and though I have tried, he refuses to
switch. My suggestion to "Erase" is extreme, I admit, but it may be an
option just the same. Have a good day.

Sorry if i appeared to be having a go, i wasnt referring to your post at
all.
I was just confused why no-body picked up on it and was just questioning
myself, not your post.

Apologies if offence was taken...
