upgrading fm win 98 to winxp

i have a old compaq 5030 that have win 98 on it im trying to
upgrade it to win xp pro or xp hm edt but when i install winxp
hm i get a mesg that say the I/O device is missing and when
i try installing xp pro i get a mesg that say the acpi file
is corrupt some one had told me to update my bios ? can anyone
help with this plz

In my opinion, your compaq 5030 may be too old to upgrade to WinXP.
Even newer
Linux Distros would have trouble.
