Win 98 2ed to XP

Joe

I am trying to upgrade win 98 to Win XP Home. It starts ok until the
first re-boot then a blank screen. I reset and the same happens. Win
98 is still working ok. The XP Home is an upgrade disk.
I tried the new install and the same thing happens.
1. Is my Windows XP Home disk U/S?
2. How could I check the disk to see if there is a fault?
3. Is it possible to return the disk if I can find a fault with it? It
is quite old, no SP's. Ver 2002.
Thx for any help.

Joe, you can do a clean install useing the Windows XP Home CD all you need is
a legal copy of Windows 98. You don't have to do a upgrade it is better to
do a clean install you will less trouble then doing a upgrade.

Check on your XP Home disk for the Upgrade Compatibility Test. You
many have some hardware item that is not compatibile with XP and that
is causing the problem.

See MVP Gary Woodruff's article on upgrading to XP:

Good luck

I have tried the 2 options suggested but the result is the same.
I have also sent an E-mail to Microsoft, They of course want the product
key, which I have sent, why did they not ask for it on the site where I
jumped through all the hoops.
Thx folks, I will keep U informed.
