Reinstalling FA within WinXP Home

Guest

Since I bought this computer 2 years ro so ago I have been successfully using
the Fax component within XP to send the occasional Fax. I can no longer do
so. The Fax printer seems to have disappeared and does not respond to all my
attempts to reinstall it. Within Windows Components it shows Fax Services as
using 3.8Mb of memory but check the box remains resolutely unticked. I have
tried uninstalling and reinstalling. the memory count remains the same. When
I install the Fax Printer logo shows briefly within the Control Panel/Faxes &
Printers Folder and disappears after one or two seconds.

Can anyone assist me with resolving this problem please.

State the changes you made that disabled fax. You have the only clues here.

That's a common problem. Sometimes other fax programs will make some changes
to the modem's memory or initialization string that will disable Windows XP
Fax. Earl Parrish is the person who has pointed that out in this group.
Search for his posts, or he may be able to provide the steps to troubleshoot
these problems. Unfortunately they are not well documented to my knowledge.

Russ,

If you are enquiring about changes made which originally disabled fax, it
may have been that I installed another Fax programme but I cannot remember
for sure. I have subsequently removed that programme and its drivers, but
there may be some remnant lurking somewhere that I am unaware of. I can
confirm that there are no readily visible fax drivers in the Printers and
Fax
folder or the File/Server Properties/Drivers.
