Problem setting up Fax Services

I have having trouble setting up fax services on XP Professional.

When I click "Set up faxing" from the Printers and Faxes menu, the process
seems to execute properly. The "Configuring Components" dialog appears with
the progress bar working from left to right. During the 10 - 15 seconds the
dialog is displayed, I can see Fax appear in the list of installed printers,
and at the same time the "Set up Faxing" button changes to "Send a Fax."
Then within 5 seconds Fax disappears from the list. On the left, the "Set up
faxing" option reappears and replaces Send a Fax. The progess bar completes,
and the Configuring Components dialog box disappears. It's as if I had never
executed the process.

Any suggestions / fixes appreciated.

It may be related to the fact that I have set up two user accounts, although
both of them have Administrator privileges, and the behavior is the same from
both accounts.

Verify you are using a fax modem on the Windows XP HCL list. Fax is never
set up from the path you mentioned. It is set up from Control Panel >
Add/Remove > Windows Components.

Hello Jim

I have exactly the same problem with my PC. Did you ever manange to correct
the Problem? I think my troubles are due to software provided by Brother
which has disabled the fax component within windows.

Harvey
