I would like to reinstall XP and delete Vista, after installing vista on my
computer I can no longer use it, it boots up and then All I get is a black
screen. My factory reset is on my hard drive, when I bought the PC new it did
not come with a disk. I have A dell dimension 8400.

Unfortunately reverting back to previous versions of Windows is not a
supported feature currently.

If the factory reset files are still on your drive, you might want to
contact Dell support to see if they can walk you through a process.
Otherwise, they may have to send you a "restore CD" by mail.

Dell computers have a disk/install image in a hidden partition on the drive,
support can tell you how to access it. If not, or you deleted it, I found
them to be real good at sending out new install disks. The cost is usually
$10 but I have never had to pay for one, as long as it is in the first year
and even if I don not need it I call and get one just in case.
The computer has to be registered to you, other wise it is a real hassle
because you have to get the original owner to transfer ownership to you.

To restore XP, try this:

1. POST (Power On Selft Test... this is where the PC checks memory)
2. Press F12
3. Given Boot menu
4. Select "Boot to utility partition"

Follow the directions on how to restore XP to hard drive from the utility
partition.

You may need the Product ID on the TEENY TINY sticker on the computer.
