reinstall windows xp

i'm having registry problems, i think, cannot reinstall office 2000 error
1402 permissions, modifying permissions doesn't help. if i reinstall windows
xp home will i lose files and email files? i figure i have to reinstall all
my software. just worried about the email stuff & other misc files on the
computer.

If you try an installation of Windows only, without a total hard drive
format, your data and files would (theoretically) be untouched. This would
be a repair installation. If you choose a format and installation, then
your hard drive would be wiped and all your data and files, and everything
else, would be gone.

First try a repair of Office.
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs applet.
Scroll to MS Office, click once on it and click Change.
Select Repair and follow the prompts.

If it comes down to reinstalling XP which you shouldn't have to, do a repair install.
