After receiving a message of a c:tree error and being asked to insert the XP
disk, installation will not complete, and a message "fffffdda error code"
,text for xfffffdda for systsetup.dll failed to install product catalog.

This particular PC is now stuck in an install loop and will not allow any
options such as last known good configuration, or other F8 options. What do
I need to do, or undo?

You didn't say if you were doing a repair install, clean install, etc.
Did you format the drive before you installed?
If so, XP will check the integrity of the drive; if not, it might be a good
idea to get a utility from the HDD maker and run it from floppy or bootable
CD to check the HDD.
I would also run memtest or suck to test the RAM.
And make sure the XP CD is nice & clean...even one waterspot can cause a
failure like that.
