Hello All:

I have a laptop on which I run Windows XP - Home Edition. Yesterday, due to
some issues that were creeping up, I reformatted my hard drive and
reinstalled Windows XP - Home Edition and SP2. I reinstalled my drivers -
and got my wireless card working so I can access the internet. However,
there seems to be some problems:

1. When I initially installed - the only icon that showed up on the desktop
was the recycle bin. Is this correct?

2. Even more important -- everytime (and I mean EVERYTIME) that I install a
program - the system basically freezes - I can go and try to run a program
and it looks like it will run (I get the hourglass showing that the program
is starting to run) - but then it will fizzle and stop. This happens with
whatever I try to run. This also happens when I try to shut down by using
the Start Button, Shut Down - Restart/Turn Off Computer button. The only way
I can turn off the computer and reboot is by pressing the on/off button on
the laptop.

3. When my system logs on - it takes longer than it did before - but it
logs on - However, I notice in the system tray that my wireless networks go
on and off at least three times before it stays on - very strange.

Please give me some ideas as to what to do. I will even reinstall if I
must. Thanks.

Answer to your first question regarding the recycle bin - Yes - it is the
only icon on clean install.
