Reinstall drivers for CD-RW and DVD

Arne

My WinXP home system will no longer access the DVD and CD-
RW drives. Under Device Manager Diver Details the drivers
listed are:
In C:\Windows\system32\ cdrom.sys; imapi.sys;
redbook.sys; storprop.dll

File version: 5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)

Can I reinstall SP1 to rebuild these drivers?

The DVD and CD-RW drives can be accessed from a boot
disk, so this seems to be a software issue.

Thank you

What does Device Manager say about your CDROM drives?

270008 Cannot Access CD-ROM and "Code 31" Error Message in Device Manager
After
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=270008 (also applies to XP and does not
have to be Adaptec related, other software does this as well.)

Bill,

The Device Manager error message read:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I linked to the Knowledge Base FAQ, edited the Registry,
rebooted, and the DVD and CD-RW drives were installed.

I was using Nero CD ver 5.5.5.9 and InCD ver 3(?)packet
writing software. The computer would sometimes crash when
backing up files (html files seemed to be the cause)

I feel a bit like the pardoned Presidential turkey, on
this one!

Thank you
