Regular Windows Explorer refresh ==> display flashing

How can I avoid or delay (via registry ???) the refresh
of the folders displayed in the explorer. This action
cause regular unfriendly flicker.
I'm using Win XP and several drives are mapped to folders
on a server.

The refresh rate is set by the Display Properties in the
Control Panel.

You can also usually set the refresh rate from the Display
icon in the System Tray (bottom left-hand corner).

You can set refresh rates for individual folders, etc.

The higher the refresh rate is set, the less the
flickering.
