How to prevent Win Explorer to auto refresh?

C

Claude Schneegans

Hi,

I have a work station under Win Xp SP2.
When I open Win Explorer on any folder in the network, the list of all
folders in the left colum
is refreshed automatically about every 5 seconds. Only on a folder in
the network, not on any
local folder.
I do not need to have it refreshed, I can do it myself (F5) if I need.

Questions:
1º is this refresh triggered by the station or the server?
2º Where and how can I kill this PITA?

Thanks.

When this happened to me, it was due to AV software
running on the remote machines.

As a test, I put the AV into "sleep" for awhile, the
flickering went away...

Since this is not practical, you might just have to live with it.

Thanks, this was a good hint, but apparently it applies only to
Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
I have Windos XP Pro.

Most stuff that references WS2k3 applies to XP as well.

You should not dismiss it out of hand.
