New folder items not visible until refresh

I just did a clean install of XP Pro/SP2.

When I create a new folder in Explorer, it doesn't show up until I refresh
the window contents.

When I drag items or cut/paste items to an Explorer window, they do not show
up until I do a refresh.

In other words, any new item in an explorer window does not show up until I
press F5 or otherwise refresh the window contents.

This is very annoying. Any help appreciated.

After your clean install, did you then install the drivers for all your
hardware? This includes the motherboard, video, audio, networking, etc.
If you didn't, then you need to do so and that should solve the issue.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

Another thought.. a newly added folder or file is added to the end of
the list. This could cause you to not see it where it's expected on a
large listing. Pressing F5 rearranges the items and then they're where
you expected to see them.
