Regular backup of Quicken data file to CD

Hope someone can help me. Recently got new computer with Win XP.
Computer has only 2 drives in addition to the HD - a CD-ROM and a DVD
Writer / CD Writer combo.

Successfully imported data file from Quicken application on old
computer and am using it. Sadly, I haven't backed up the data since
then, and am getting worried.

Have never burned a CD in my life and I'll have to learn in order to
backup on this computer. My son and grandson used to teach me new
stuff, but both have moved away. I probably could use the external
Zip drive I used to export/import my old file to this computer, but
fear that once I did that, I'd be locked into it, and never getting
the file onto a CD.

This computer has Sonic Record Now. Have been reading it's help files,
but they don't seem definitive enough for me. They mention DLA (Drive
Letter Access) which I can't locate on the system, and it doesn't
sound appropriate anyway.

Have also read Q's help file re: CD Backup and it's not specific
enough either. On the old computer, I would backup frequently to the
same Iomega Zip disc. It would write the new data to the same disc
time after time without any problem. I could try the same thing using
a CD RW disc in the DVD drive, but don't really want to try it without
knowing what to expect. Will it continually write to the same disc
time after time as did the application on the old computer's Zip
drive?

Thanks, Carey, for the lead. More complicated than I have time for
this morning. Will return and study. Evidently I'm going to have to
make a fresh total back up on a new disc each time I back up. Don't
know of any third-party software that I can use. Am getting ready for
house guests so will check this out tomorrow.

Congratulations on having Record Now for your CD burner! It is the easiest program I have found to use to burn CD's.
You need to get familiar with burning a CD first. Find a file in say My Documents. Right click that file and move down to "send to". Move over and down to Record Now. That file will now be copied to the Record Now folder and is ready for burning. There is an option to add more files for burning before the burn begins. Otherwise click the Burn button (with a blank disk in the drive, of course).

When the burn is finished the disk will pop out and is ready to be read by any CD reader. This is a permanent file storage and may not be re written. Simply start with a new disk next time and keep track of the date you burned the file.

You might also want to consider a Jump drive or Flash drive. A relative small one would store your Quicken files for a long time such as a 32Mb unit. That would be fairly inexpensive. Just plug it in to a USB port and click and drag files to it. You may find it by double clicking the MY COMPUTER icon on your start scrreen. You can save multiple files or over write one file several times. No two files can be saved with the same name in the same folder.

Quicken 2004 is set up to save fils to floppy disks and saving to other devices is more complicated. Do a backup to the "backup" folder in Quicken then right click and "copy" the file and move it to your storage device. To restore, open the saved file on you storage device, right click the file and copy it. Find the backup file in Quicken and click paste to transfer the file back into Quicken. Then perform a restore from that file in Quicken.
