I was unable to uninstall stopzilla and had to do it manually.

there are still a nuber of entries in the registry which I am unsure about
and don't know if i can delete them.

HKLM\system\controlset001\services\eventlog\application\sources

then there is a list which includes Stopzilla

Could you explain what this is and if i can safely delete items from it?

there associated keys: controlset002 - currentcontrolset

You can remove any Stopzilla folder safely from the registry.
