During a Windows Update session a few months ago, I installed the newest
video driver for the video card in my system (ATI RADEON 7500). Almost
immediately after instalation, I started having probelms with some of the
games that had been working normaly before the install (ie. a game that only
runs in full screen suddenly minimizing, or the display blacks out for a few
seconds...the game continues to run unabated during these episodes. Another
game has a problem when the more items the computer is asked to draw on
screen, the slower and choppier the game runs). I contacted ATI and they
suggested either rolling back the system to before the download, or
uninstalling the driver and then use a "driver cleaner" in safe mode to scrub
out any remaining ghost images, then do a clean install. I tried rolling the
system back first and then I tried the drive cleaner/clean install method.
In each case, it looked like everything was back to normal. However, after
turning the computer off for the night and starting it back up the next day,
the probelm returns. My question is: is the Windows registry corupted, or
is it the video card itself? If it's the registry, is there a way to fix the
issue without reformating the hard drive and reinstalling everything from
square one?

Chances are that the "driver Cleaner" did not do the job properly.
I would suggest control panel/add&remove to remove the ATI drivers,If the
ATI uninstall utility is present run that before you uninstall it as
well. Then open regedit and do a search for anything related to ATI and
RADEON....delete all you find .
Then reboot and let XP load the generic Radeon drivers.
Then reinstall your old drivers.
Now test your game again.
hope this helps
