Registry Problems?

R

Ronald Frye

Problem 1: On one of our eight computers, opening any
folder, only the first letter of the title appears in the
title bar. Example: If a folder on the desktop is
entitled, "Genealogy Programs", only the "G" will appear
in the title bar. In other instances on this same
computer, only "C" appears in the folder's title bar, no
matter what the folder name.

Problem 2: As you may know, right-clicking on an icon,
one can add comments to the icon to describe what the
program does (when the mouse cursor is placed over the
icon). On seven of our eight computers, if an icon
comment has four lines of text, all four lines display
completely. On one of our eight computers, only 1 1/2
lines of a four-line icon comment displays.

I'm stumped. Can anyone out there offer suggestions as to
how to solve these two problems? Could they be Registry
related?

Thank you,

Interesting. I've not heard of such and have no immediate
suggestions as to the cause or cure. Any chance this is malware
related?

Something to try. In Folder options, View select to show the full
path in the title bar. Same results? Does toggling that setting
have any effect? Is the disk NTFS or FAT32? You should tell us the
OS and SP as well. Is this just directory "Folders" title bar or all
title bars? Just Shortcuts to a folder or actual folders? When did
this behavior start and was it after installing something?

I did find a hit as regards the IE title bar (single letter) in
conjuction with ZipMagic 98... (long shot)

Sorry. Only have questions whose answers might lead someone to
recognize the underlying problem.

Dave's suggestion of trying another account/profile might isolate it
to a corrupted profile.

Problem 2: As you may know, right-clicking on an icon,

Sorry. Don't use ToolTips/InfoText here.
