Because there isn't a need to use one and if you do, mistakes in its use can be disasterous.
I have seen too many posts where someone complains about software not working subequent to
their use. No wonder Microsoft stopped production of RegCleaner for Win9x/ME.

Prior to using Registry Mechanic WinXP was collapsing at least twice a
week. The advice I got was to use the afore mentioned software. I had
it installed over 6 months ago and since then I haven't had one crash.

I have to admit I am not computer literate. I use it as a tool to pay
the bills and put bread on the table.

Well! That bit of info fails to convince me of anythng.

Hi David.....

While I don't disagree with you on the possible disasters with people
misusing Registry Cleaners, I have to point out that Microsoft produced
"RegClean 4.1" and it wasn't originally meant for the public to use. It was
a "tech tool". And it was the only one that (imo) was safe to use and also
effective. I still have a copy of it, but it is no good for XP.

I do sometimes use the old JV16 Tools (the free one), but only to find any
bits left of programs I have uninstalled. I am not about to mess with the
Registry!!

Cheers....Heather

I may be sorry I wrote this...but....I've been using jv16
for several years, now the paid one. I always backup what
I'm deleting and maybe, one or two times in 5 years, have I
had a problem. And in both cases, I was able to fix the
problem by looking at what had been deleted and restoring
the entry(s) that had caused the problem.

I also use CCleaner - but I leave the registry part to jv16.

I've never heard of jv16, but I just found the old free version. I'll
give it a try.

I don't let any utility automatically change my registry, but I do like
RegScanner to find particular items in my registry.

The old version 1.3 of JV Power Tools is every bit as good as the paid
version. JV sold it and it is now RegSupreme. I have tried the pay one,
but like you, I also prefer to decide what I take out. Thanks for the
link.
