hi,

i just have my ADSL broadband service with dynamic IP connected to my home
PC. the connection works fine and able to surf the net without problem.
since it is a dynamic IP, i wonder how can i ping my home PC from outside
internet connection using my home computer name. is the DNS need to be setup?

i can ping my home PC from outside using IP but not able with computer name.
can anyone pls help me out? pls provide step by step if possible.

all i need to do is able to ping my home PC using computer name and return
the current IP to me so that i can connect it with some third party software
which only work with IP.

you help is appreciated.

thank you.

Sign up for a dynamic DNS service, which will let you assign a DNS
name to your computer and update the name when the computer's dynamic
IP address changes. I use www.dyndns.org , and a web search for
"dynamic DNS" will show many more.

thanks steve,

i wonder it that the only way to solve my problem? my home pc is not always
logon onto the internet. i need to make a connection (just like dail-up)
before able to access to the internet? just kind of curious how the dyndns
able to tack my home pc IP each time i logon?

can i solve the problem by putting in a DNS surfix on the LAN TCP/IP setting
and register when connected to the internet?

thank you.
