How do I register a new domain name in XP PRO w/SP2? I have been on a
WorkGroup but need to establish a Domain Name for my PC. Thanks in advance
for any help. Jim

XP Pro cannot "establish" a domain, that requires a server functioning as a
domain controller.

You don't, aside from using an email client or browser to fill out the forms
at a hosting service. Registering a domain name has basically nothing to
do with operating systems.

Sorry, but this question doesn't make a lot of sense. Your PC does not
need a domain name. Please explain what you mean.
Thanks in advance for any help. Jim

If you're joining a network domain, you have generally taken your PC to a
workplace where there is a local network with a Windows server acting as a
domain controller, and there is IT staff to run the whole thing.

The IT staff will give you the necessary information to join the domain and
they have created an account for you to log in to. If there isn't an
account, you can't join.

Use a separate account to join the domain, as when you take your PC home
again, you won't be logging into the domain and that may cause some
problems.

"Registering a domain name" has a completely different meaning. It means
that you are hoping to purchase and publish an internet domain name, for
example "mydomainname.net".

It would help if you could clarify your question.

Thanks Patrick. Sorry that I was not clear enough with my request fo help. I
downloaded a Diagnostic program for IIS and when I ran it it contained
several "Must be a Domain" entries. This is the basis for my request. Hope
this helps. Jim
