Reduce PST file size

Is there a way to reduce the Outlook pst file size? Even though I
permanently deleted large amounts of emails from the mailbox the pst file
size does not go down. I have file size now over 380 mb and I think it is
slowing down or crashing my computer (although there maybe other problems as
well).
