Why do I not see the recycle bin on the desktop as in XP and other versions
of Windows? It is a nuisance to have to open Explorer every time I want to
empty the recycle bin.

Thanks

Check your desktop customization options - it should be on the desktop, it
is on every copy of Vista I have. Right-click an empty part of the desktop
and select the personalization options, then "Change desktop icons" in the
quick task area on the left-hand side.

someone probably deleted the shortcut.

Right-click on the desktop, Personalize,
on the left, under Tasks, click on Change Desktop Icons
[x] Recycle Bin

This appears to be something which slipped by the Microsoft/Vista
developers. In XP, it was not possible to delete the Recycle Bin off the
Desktop, as one would a simple Shortcut.

'Control Panel | Personalization | (left panel) Change desktop icons |
Desktop Icon Settings | Desktop'

And there you'll see that errant Recycle Bin.

Right click an empty spot on the Desktop and select Personalize. Under the
Task List, select the Change Desktop Icons option. Select whatever system
icons you want to appear on the Desktop.

Thanks you-that did it
