Recycle Bin Folder - Missing

Am running Win Xp and it's up to date. I cannot exactly state when the
problem first occurred but at present; although I can send items to the
Recycle Bin, I cannot find the recycle bin anywhere. Searched thoroughly by
using 'Search' and opened up files on c drive (carefully - I'm not an
expert!) as the Icon on Desktop has also gone but don't be sidetracked by
this. Have sought help from DAL Computer Help and Waynes Computer Help and
other places but the solutions offered relate usually to the missing Icon. I
have tried resetting computer to an earlier date (when the Recycle bin was
accessible - late May 2007) but it wont do this. Tried Tweak UI and other
suggestions. Not wishing to offer a Red Herring but believe system was
attacked by Spylocked when a System Alert message appeared and references to
W32.MYZOR.FK@fy. I updated my spyware to Paratelogic and this appears (the
missing Recycle Bin) the only remaining fault, though sometimes things slow a
bit to what they were. Whilst this may have caused by problem it is the cure
I need. I would like to access my Recycle Bin in the normal manner (Icon on
Desktop) and have the appropriate folder in the right place so that I can see
what is in the bin and restore and or delete items as I think fit. I used to
be able to - why can't I now.
Answers and offers of help in Plain Simple English please!!

Undoubtably, a common problem is that Microsoft saw fit to include the option
to "delete" when you right click on the recycle bin just under the option to
"empty recycle bin" and many people often click "delete" which removes the
icon fromt he desktop. There is even a warning "are you sure you want to..."
and an explanation to restore it to the desktop later if you wish but if you
are in a hurry you don't read it, because it looks like the "are you sure you
want to recycle these xxx files?" prompt.

To restore, right click on the desktop somewhere and click on "personalize".
Then in the left pane of the personalization window you'll see an option to
'change desktop icons'. Click it and put a check back into the box next to
"recycle bin". It should be back on the desktop.

Richard,

Have you tried this:

http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/RecycleBin.ht
I looked through the registry key & it just replaces the namespace, which
should allow the bin icon to be replaced

I tried this but even though an Icon appeared (not the Win Icon) I could not access anything from it and I checked the folders in the C Drive and there is still No Recycle Bin Folder (which is the Main Problem) Thanks for help.

I tried this but if i Right Click on my desktop I only get Arrange Icons, Refresh, Undo Delete, New & Properties - not as you describe. I can go Control Panel, Display, Desktop, Customise (nearly same as Personalise) but what you say does not appear - ??? Thanks anyway.

This is where I must admit that I am not experienced enough to be convinced this will rectify the described problem and therefore I must confess reluctance to try this / these. Are there any other MS Win XP experts around who can confirm that this suggested solution WILL safely cure my problem??? - Will hold for the meantime on this but appreciate your suggestion - RichardH

Nobody can provide absolute assurance that a particular solution will solve
a problem.

There is *never* any guarantee that any suggested solution will solve
any particular problem. None of us can see your computer and be sure
what your problem is.

But Kelly's web site is legendary. It's one of the very best resources
out there, and the chances of her fix helping you out are exceedingly
high.

But your choice, of course, as to whether you want to follow her
advice.

I suppose I have been fortunate over the last year since I bought my desktop computer in hardly ever experiencing any problem other than getting on line with Virgin / British Telecom so I was somewhat reticent to experiment or 'play' with my system. I am, however, pleased to report that, at the time of this reply, having been reassured by Ken Blakes comments I followed the remedy suggested by KELLY and the Recycle Bin & the Desktop Icon are, I believe, back to normal. Thanks to all who offered help and advice - I am left only pondering as to whether
the cause was Spylocked or some other 'intruder'.
Thanks again
RichardH
