recycle bin doesn't work

G

Glen

I'm unable to delete any files, either by dragging them to the Recycle Bin on
my desktop or by right-clicking and selecting Delete. I get the following
error message:

Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete [filename]. The directory or file cannot be created.

I can tell you how when I first got this problem, though I don't think it
matters.

If I try to see what's in the Recycle Bin, the flashlight searches and
searches forever, without success.

I will greatly appreciate it if someone will tell me how to fix it.

Thank you,
Glen

That particular tweak has helped me many times. I just want to add two
things about it that I've discovered:

1. After merging the restorerecyclebin.reg file into the registry, you may
have to delete a throwaway file in order to finally purge the Recycle Bin.

2. If a file (particularly on a USB drive) is damaged and is causing this
problem, it may be necessary to run chkdsk /f on the drive in question.

I tried using a REG file from that line and all it did was make OE not work.
I had to restore the registry.

I was able to find this REG file after doing a little searching, but using
it to fix the Recycle Bin didn't help. The Recycle Bin is still not working.
Whay "throwaway file" are you talking about?

My only drive is internal. Perhaps I should run chkdsk /f on it?

Just create or make a copy of any file and then delete it. I've found that
doing this after applying restorerecyclebin.reg makes it possible to empty
the recycle bin (and restore the desktop icon to the "normal" one).

I don't suppose it could hurt...
