Recovery XP disks cause 0X0000007B error

Hello and thanks for reading.

I have a ViewSonic tablet laptop that had the unfortunate experience of
having a keylogger type worm installed onto it, so that my "friend" was
able to spy on all of my emails. I figured the best approach would be
to clean the hard drive with DBAN. This worked fine on my desk
top...and appeared to work well on my laptop as well.

The problem now is that when I try to reinstall the recovery disks for
the laptop and even the windows XP that I use for my laptop, I get the
same error: (blue screen)

A problem has been tetected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer...blah blah blah.

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF99E640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

My laptop does not have a cd player, but I am using an addonics
peripheral CD player.

The error occurs after the recover disks boot up, the computer says to
push R for display system recovery options. I do so and I see the
appropate "starting systems recovery" scroll at the bottom of the
screen.

After that, I see the error.

I also tried to use my desktop windows xp installation disk instead of
my laptop recovery disks....same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

In order to use a PC manufacturer's recovery disc,
you must return the PC to its original factory hardware
configuration and disconnect all hardware peripheral devices
that are not part of the original PC configuration.

Thank you for your reply Ms Frisch, but.....

1) Could you tell me how to restore my laptop to its original factory
hardware configuration and...

2) How can I use restore disks when there is no cd player installed
without the use of the peripheral CD player?

Thanks for your reply once again.

You'll need to contact the manufacturer of your Tablet PC and
ask them for the correct procedure.

If your Hard drive is okay ( if you are not then try to download the
diagnostic tools to test the health of your HDD), also a Boot sector Virus
that causing this error to occur on the recovery.
Try this:
When prompted to press any key to strt with XP CD Hit a Key, then let the
procedure of copying files to the HDd, don't select (R) yet. Select Setup
then Hit F8 to agree, on the Setup you will have an option to Install on the
present Partition (S) or Repair the existing partition, Hit (R) to repair,
you will need your COA ready, so make sure it is handy on apiece of paper.

The problem is that when I put in my recovery disk, the R is the only
option.

You may very well find that the original manuals detail the procedure. Try
googline "viewsonic tablet support", which returns hits like this.. .
http://www.viewsonic.com/support/mobilewireless/tabletpc/tabletpcv1250/

If you click on Support, then Manuals, you'll be asked for the serial number
and I suppose taken to a page with the correct manuals.

Otherwise, don't accept "they no longer provide support". There has to
be a way to return the tablet to its original configuration, or the original
design is junk. Call, write them - use real mail, not email, as there are
legal delivery requirements for physical mail that don't apply to email.
Copy the CEO, and other executives. Support managers generally don't
really want to be hearing from executives about stuff like this.

But I expect that you will find that there are archived resources detailing
recovery procedures. Worst comes to worst, you can probably find a
service center that knows how to do this. Yes, this will cost something.
